Hyderabad, June 14

Hindustan Zinc Ltd, a part of Vedanta Resources Plc and the country's largest integrated producer of zinc and lead, has announced that it was awarded the `Golden Peacock Environment Management Award - 2006' on Wednesday. The World Environment Foundation (WEF) gave the award for using environment friendly techniques in carrying out industrial activities. In a press release here, HZL said the award is a recognition of the company's world-class environment practices.

HZL's ISO 14001 certified Visakhapatnam plant won the award amid stiff competition. Several environmental performance indicators were monitored and evaluated, according to WEF's stringent parameters for grant of this award.
