`Remove entry tax on petrol, diesel'

Our Bureau

Mangalore, June 14

The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has urged the Karnataka Government to withdraw entry tax on petrol and diesel in the state. In a letter to the Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister, Mr B.S. Yediyurappa — copies of which were released to the press here on Wednesday — the KCCI President, Mr A. Srinivasa Rao, said that levying of entry tax on petrol and diesel has made these products costlier than those in the neighbouring states. Stating that the recent increase in the prices of petrol and diesel has affected the industries and the common man, he said the Government should initiate moves to withdraw entry tax on them. Apart from this, it should also take steps to bring down sales tax on these commodities. The chamber suggested that the departments concerned be given suitable instructions to implement these measures.
