With a view to meeting the Indian market, Nokia has set up manufacturing facility in Chennai

Kolkata , June 18

Cellular phone handsets major Nokia has identified opportunities for volume growth in the entry-level and replacement segments of the market, according to Mr Devinder Kishore, Director Marketing, Nokia India Pvt Ltd.

Speaking to newspersons at a meeting here on Saturday to announce the "Defend Your Turf Futsal Champions" and to share Nokia's youth marketing initiatives in India, Mr Kishore said, with rural markets opening up to mobile telephony, teledensity in the country was set to go up further from the existing level of 12-15 per cent. "Besides the entry level, the replacement market offers huge opportunities with customers opting for handsets with additional features. Hence, we see opportunities at the bottom of the pyramid and also with regard to those customers with a propensity to be tech-savvy who comprise the replacement handsets market."

`Connecting with youth'

Mr Kishore said India was Nokia's fourth-largest market in the world. With youth accounting for 60 per cent of the handsets market in India, Nokia was focused on "connecting with the youth."
