`SMBs poised to spend more on IT'

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, June 18

The IT spend by the small and medium sized business (SMB) segment is poised to increase from the Rs 21,370 crore spent in 2005, according to a ACNielsen study on Technology Roadmap for SMBs. With SMBs focusing on upgrading their IT infrastructure, the study points towards increasing budgets over the next two years.

The most common barriers to IT adoption, according to the SMBs, are inadequate budget and lack of alignment between business goals and IT efforts. The ACNielsen study in association with Computer Society of India (CSI) on Technology Roadmap for SMB captures the trends in technology adoption by SMBs in eight distinct cities.

The study polled SMBs across different sectors of manufacturing, transport and logistics, pharmaceuticals, hospitality and travel and IT-ITES. ACNielsen in partnership with CSI and IT companies — Avaya, Microsoft, HP, Computer Associates — has convened an eight-city conference on the technology roadmap for SMBs in the country. On June 20, the event will be hosted in Hyderabad.
