Govt, India Inc delegation heads to US

With an agenda to double the volume of Indo-US trade, a Government and industry delegation is on a nine-day visit to the US.

The outline of the `9 Days of India in the US' includes discussion and dialogues on innovation, strategy, tri-lateral talks on Indo-US - China, and Indo-US-Japan, healthcare and launch of the Indian Business Forum among others.

Delegates

The Government delegation includes the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr Kamal Nath, the Minister of Science and Technology, Mr Kapil Sibal, and the Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission, Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia.

Mr Ratan Tata, the Chairman of Tata Sons, Mr Jamshyd Godrej, the Chairman and Managing Director of Godrej and Boyce Manufacturing Company Ltd, Mr Harpal Singh, the Chairman of Fortis Healthcare Ltd, Dr Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, the Chairman and Managing Director of Biocon Ltd and Mr Tarun Das, the Chief Mentor of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), represent India Inc.

Meets

From June 17 to 20, the Aspen Strategy Group and the CII, is organising the eighth meeting of the US-India Strategic Dialogue. The co-chairs of this dialogue are General Brent Scowcroft, former National Security Advisor, USA, and Dr Joseph Nye, former Dean of the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, and Mr Naresh Chandra, former Indian Ambassador to the US.

On June 22, Mr Kamal Nath will address the US-India Business Council 31st Anniversary Leadership Summit. Mr Tata, Dr Mazumdar Shaw and Mr Das will also be speaking at the Summit.

Earlier, on June 15-16 the CII, along with the National Academy of Sciences hosted a high-level conference focused on `India's Changing Innovation System: Achievements, Challenges, and Opportunities for Cooperation'. The conference assessed the opportunities and challenges posed by globalisation and highlighted the need to further improve respective national innovative capacities.
