Clarification

This is with reference to "PSBs lag private peers in profits per employee" (Business Line, June 13): The net profit per employee of Bank of India for the year ended March 2006 is Rs 1.66 lakh.

The data in the report perhaps relate to March 2005, when the profits of the bank, like most others', had dropped on account of a fall in profits from treasury operations and due to staff salary provisions.

Besides, for a number of reasons, it may be more appropriate to compare such data amongst banks in the same group.
