Tea Low offer volumes propel Coonoor tea prices P.S. Sundar
Coonoor , June 19 Prices rose by Rs 2 a kg on an average at the 24th auction of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) held here last weekend when the volume offered fell by 87,000 kgs over the previous week to reach 10.85 lakh kgs. Demand from both the upcountry buyers and the exporters was fair enough to propel higher bids.
Pak support
Among the corporate buyers, Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL) showed interest on better medium grades. Tata Tea bought some teas for export markets.
On the export front, Pakistan lent forceful support on the clean, black, smaller brokens and fanning grades. For many consignments, they paid up to Rs 5 a kg more than the previous week. Exporters to Iraq showed interest to buy plainer teas. But the shippers to CIS and Poland markets showed subdued interestQuotations held by the brokers indicated price bids ranging from Rs 37.50 to Rs 39 a kg for the plain leaf grades
