JNPT seeks more rakes from Concor

Mumbai , June 19

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port has asked Container Corporation of India (Concor) to supply more rakes to the port for faster cargo evacuation to contain the congestion problem.

While agreeing to deploy more rakes, Concor has informed the port that in view of rail construction works relating to the JNPT-Panvel doubling of rail lines, there has been a reduction in the number of rakes during the last few days. The average number of rakes supplied by Concor to JNPT last fiscal was 11.5 per day.

Stating that the situation is going to ease, Concor also informed that 17 rakes were waiting to be pressed into service for JNPT. Further, the container rail operator has also promised to supply 16 rakes per day , which would be increased later depending on the availability.

As on June 16, there was an ICD pendency of 3,336 TEUs at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal , 6,189 TEUs at JSICT and 2,324 at Gateway Terminals India Pvt Ltd terminals.
