Trade & Labour Unions CCTL brings reinforcements to counter strike Our Bureau
Chennai , June 19 Chennai Container Terminal Ltd (CCTL), the private operator at the Chennai port's container terminal, has brought in around 25 workers from its group terminals including Nhava Sheva, to counter obstruction by a section of CCTL workers. This action follows a decision by about 70 CCTL workers to join hands with a labour union in supporting the reinstatement of seven dismissed workers, according to industry sources. "We need to make contingency measures to serve the trade. There is no loss of productivity and things are normal in the terminal," the source said. A trade notice issued by CCTL says that at the commencement of the first shift on Friday, a section of its workmen supporting the cause of reinstatement of the seven dismissed workmen abstained from work in a concerted manner. These workmen have continued to abstain from work. "As our prime objective is to safeguard the interests of our customers, we have ensured that operations at the terminal have continued un-interrupted with the support of our workmen, management staff and personnel from other terminals of our company," the notice says.
