Awards & Honours Medal run at Cannes continues Our Bureau
Mumbai , June 20 India's medal run at Cannes 2006 continues. After JWT, which won a Promo Lion for its Lehar Kurkure campaign and Rediffusion, which bagged a Silver Lion for its Midland Bookstore campaign, it is now the turn of Ogilvy & Mather. The agency has won a Gold Lion in the outdoor category for its campaign for Discovery Channel, World Map. And, according to sources, JWT is all set to win its second gold medal. Mr Pratap Bose, CEO, Ogilvy & Mather, said, "India's performance this year has been twice as good as last year. The Indian advertising agencies have performed well across all categories including media. It certainly augurs well and keeps detractors (who have been saying that Indian advertising has gone down the hill) at bay."
Other categories
When asked about the other categories he expects the agency to win medals, Mr Bose said, "We hope to win as many as possible." Ogilvy & Mather has 10 shortlists this year in categories such as press, new media and outdoor." Mr Bruce Matchett, Chief Creative Director, JWT India, is delighted with the agency's performance and hopes that it also wins a gold in the press and TV categories for its Levis campaign. Speaking to Business Line from Cannes, he said, "This is my first year in India and my congratulations to all the Indian creative directors and the creative team of JWT India." Mr Arvind Sharma, Chairman, Leo Burnett, said, "We look forward to India doing better at the Cannes this year. The quality of Indian advertising has been consistently improving and we are being counted as a creatively strong country. We should now work towards being regarded as a creatively hot country." Leo Burnett has also been short-listed in several categories such as print, outdoor, media and innovative media, but Mr Sharma is hopeful of winning medals for its Jungle Lodge campaign in the print segment and for Prerna (an NGO) in the media segment.
