Shipping Panel to work out container transportation charges Our Bureau
The committee will find ways to ensure transparency in transaction and eliminate hidden costs in container transportation
Kochi , June 21 A committee has been constituted by the Chairman of the Cochin Port Trust to work out reasonable container transportation charges from the port to various hinterland destinations and also to look at related issues. The committee will find ways to ensure transparency in transactions and eliminate hidden costs in container transportation. It will seek to ensure that adequate provision for remunerations for employees is also included in the rates arrived at.
Committee Report
The committee will submit its report by July 5. Once the rates are finalised, no hidden costs will be permitted for container transportation, a press release issued here said. Mr Dominic Mechery, Secretary of the Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will be the Chairman of the Committee. It has also been decided to constitute a separate committee to look into the problems faced by the container trailer employees, the composition of which will be announced shortly after consultations, the release said.
Wage Issue
A decision in this regard was taken as a follow up of the meeting convened by the Port Chairman, Mr N. Ramachandran, last week with various port users and trade unions to discuss the issues relating to container trailer transportation as well as issues relating to wages of trailer crew.
