Tea Higher tea volume on offer at Coonoor sale P.S. Sundar
Coonoor , June 21 The auctions of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) on Thursday and Friday will once again see high volumes. This is the 25th sale of the year and the volume catalogued is the third largest so far 11.71 lakh kg, which is marginally lower than the 11.72 lakh kg offered a fortnight ago. The highest volume of 12.6 lakh kg was offered on May 25.
More leaf
Of the volume catalogued for this week, nearly 8.31 lakh kg belongs to leaf grade and the rest is dust grade. Again, as much as 11.07 lakh kg belongs to the CTC category and the rest to the orthodox variety. Among the leaf grades, 8.08 lakh kg belongs to the CTC variety and only 0.23 lakh kg belongs to the orthodox variety. Among the dust grades, 2.99 lakh kg belongs to the CTC variety and 0.41 lakh kg to the orthodox variety. "Such low proportion of orthodox variety will tell on the export demand. The spread has to be more on the CTC teas, but exporters do have a preference for orthodox teas," an auctioneer told Business Line.
