Outlook Industry & Economy - Cars DaimlerChrysler plans to assemble S-class models locally Our Bureau
Pune , June 23 DaimlerChrysler India is all set to commence local assembly of its premium S-class model from its Pune facility from July this year. Aspirants to this particular set of hot wheels may now look forward to shelling out 15-20 per cent less once it happens, since the CBU S-class attracts import duty of 112 per cent. While the price of the CBU model is Rs 82-85 lakh, depending on the specifications, the locally assembled S-class will sport a price tag of Rs 70-75 lakhs, said Mr Suhas Kadlaskar. Last year, the company sold 144 S-class models. "While the imported S-class models usually have five- or even six-litre engines, as per preference of the buyer, we plan to assemble the car with a 3.5-litre engine." The company has sold 870 cars in the first six months of this year - 450 E class, 340 C class, 20 each of the CLS and SLK models, and 40 S class models.
