Pall Life Sciences sets up Centre of Excellence

The Bangalore centre would also provide pharma and bio-tech companies consultancy and trouble-shooting services besides supporting validation and training

Mumbai , June 23

As part of its intensified focus on the Asian bio-pharmaceutical market, the US-based Pall Life Sciences is setting up a Centre of Excellence in Bangalore, which would also be the prototype for similar centres in Shanghai and Singapore.

A specialist in filtration, Pall Corporations's $1.9 billion (Rs 8,724.2 crore) business is organised around the industrial and life sciences segments. And the company is intensifying its focus on Asia, given the growth prospects for bio-pharmaceuticals in this region.

Work has already started on the Bangalore centre that would house, among other things, labs to support services in the drug discovery segment and proteomics arenas, said Mr Vinay Joban, a Pall-veteran who recently relocated from New York to Bangalore to set up the Centre. The new centre would be up and running in about five months, he told Business Line.

First in Asia

Providing services to companies involved in process proteomics, the Bangalore centre is Pall's first outside the US and France. It will support Asia and other global markets, company officials said.

Bridging the gap

The Bangalore centre would also provide pharma and biotech companies consultancy and trouble-shooting services, besides supporting validation and training. Unwilling to divulge financials, Mr Joban said they looked to employ about 30 technical and support staff.
