Pala Co-op Society net at Rs 4.25 cr

Aravindan

Kottayam , June 23

Pala Marketing Co-operative Society Ltd has posted a net profit of Rs 4.25 crore during 2005-06 as against Rs 1.60 crore during 1995-96. This achievement made by a primary marketing co-operative society is a record in the history of co-operative movement in Kerala, said Prof K.K. Abraham, President of the society.

During 2005-06 the society marketed 22,000 tonnes of rubber under different grades. The society processed 6,000 tonnes of block rubber at its factory during the period. While it processed 15,000 tonnes of rubber for marketing, it exported around 6,500 tonnes.

Good show

Both at the state and national levels the society has achieved an enviable position in different sectors. Probably it is the only primary society in India, which has a membership in a commodity exchange, Prof Abraham pointed out.

Similarly it is the only society, which exports rubber directly to many foreign countries. The society has drawn up different development programmes in its diversification plans during the next two years. The cost for this is expected to be around Rs 15 crore.
