Left parties oppose divestment move

Our Bureau

New Delhi , June 23

The Left parties have came out heavily opposing the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) to disinvest 10 per cent shares in Nalco and Neyveli Lignite.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) charged the Government with violation of the National Common Minimum Programme (NCMP). The CPI National Secretary, Mr D. Raja, said the party would take up the issue at the next UPA-Left co-ordination committee meeting.

The CPI (M)-affiliated Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) took a strong stand and voiced concerns about the vested interest group influencing the disinvestment decision. The party said the decision on disinvestment in Nalco was influenced by the Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram's relationship with Anil Agarwal-promoted metals company Vedanta Resources.
