SBI office close to Nathu La in Sikkim soon

Santanu Sanyal

To facilitate trade with China by land route

Kolkata , June 23

State Bank of India (SBI) will shortly open an office at Sherathang, a few hundred metres from Nathu La in north Sikkim, to facilitate trade with China by the land route.

Giving this information to Business Line here, Mr Uday Sankar Roy, Chief General Manager of SBI in Bengal Circle, which also has Sikkim under its jurisdiction, indicated that the proposed office might not be a full-fledged branch.

This was because, according to indications available so far, the trade might not take place on all days of the week. Also, the route would be closed to traffic for several months in a year.
