Kolkata , June 23

The Indian market for imaging and printing products is expected to touch $17 billion by 2010, up from $11.5 billion in 2005, according to Mr Puneet Chadha, Country Manager, Commercial Sales, Imaging and Printing Group, Hewlett-Packard India Sales Pvt Ltd.

Addressing a news conference here to announce the first installation of the HP Indigo Digital Press 1050 in eastern India, Mr Chadha said that by 2010, 17 per cent of the overall printing market in India would be accounted for by digital printers. At present, however, there was no separate data on market share of analogue and digital printers.

According to him, globally, the digital printing market accounts for 12 per cent of the overall printing market. With focus on cost-effectiveness, short and medium runs and fast turnaround times, digital printers were capturing a larger share of the commercial space. "We at HP are working on technologies that are aimed at making printing more affordable in terms of cost per page," Mr Chadha said.

"The market is transforming into the digital mode. To survive in the future, commercial printers need to add on digital printing capabilities," he said.
