Kolkata , June 24 The Delhi-based Rs 500-crore Hind Industries Ltd, among the major exporters of meat in the country, has outlined plans to invest Rs 106 crore in an integrated and composite buffalo and goat rearing and breeding farm at Salboni in West Medinipur district of West Bengal. The State Government on Friday handed over 500 acres to the company for setting up the farm. In the first year of operations, the company proposes to breed and rear 5,000 Murrah buffaloes and 10,000 female black Bengal goats. Meat produced at the proposed facility would be sold in domestic and export markets. Hind Industries, which has three meat processing units in the country, exports meat to 45 nations worldwide. Speaking to newspersons after formally handing over the land to Hind Industries, the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, said that initially the project would benefit 1,000 farmer families. In the next five-year period, the project would benefit 5,000 farmer families directly even as the number of indirect beneficiaries would go up to 25,000. Mr Sirajuddin Qureshi, Chairman of Hind Industries, said that milk, male buffalo calves, cult animals, and goats, would be purchased by the company for processing and marketing in the domestic and export markets.
