Our Bureau

Chennai , June 25

A high level committee on manufacturing led by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, will meet next month to discuss macro-economic measures needed to make industry globally competitive, according to a press release from the Confederation of Indian Industry (Southern Region).

The release said that Mr V Govindarajan, Member Secretary, National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council, addressing industry leaders on Saturday at the Southern Regional Council meeting, said the Government would need to deal with ensuring macro-economic stability, including containing core inflation.

The Government must strengthen education, skill building and speedy development of infrastructure. The industry must invest in R&D and technology. Modern management practices and technology can help enhance firm level competitiveness.
