Automated warehouses ready

Hyderabad, June 26

The first set of automated warehouses at Central Ordnance Depot (COD), Kanpur, was inaugurated recently by General J J Singh, Chief of Army Staff. These warehouses are equipped with automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), which was developed by BHEL's Corporate R&D Division, Hyderabad.

Commissioning of four warehouses has been completed by installing the ASRS, along with powered conveyors, bar-coding system and radio frequency communication. BHEL is continuing its work on the remaining nine warehouses. The total value of this contract received from Defence Research & Development Organisation is Rs 100 crore, according to a press release by the BHEL R&D.
