Restructuring States - Maharashtra Gillette shifting office base to Mumbai Our Bureau
New Delhi , July 2 Several changes are in the offing at Gillette India Ltd as it synergises its operations with Procter and Gamble, which had acquired Gillette globally last year. Though the acquisition is not going to lead to Gillette India's (GIL) merger with P&G India, GIL is in the process of relocating its base from its Gurgaon office to move into P&G's headquarters in Mumbai. Mr Saroj K. Poddar, Chairman of GIL said, "All plans are on as per schedule. Although our corporate office would now be based out of Mumbai, our registered office will continue to remain in our factory location in Bhiwadi." The company, he said had "successfully" integrated its business with that of P&G. "While some people have been absorbed into P&G's operations in other countries such as Singapore, many others have found placements in other FMCG or telecom companies in India," Mr Poddar said. The company has already stated that it would be closing down its distribution outlets in a phased manner and would resort to utilising P&G's network. Gillette is also offering a voluntary retirement scheme and other packages to some employees who face redundancy after the new structures and processes are put in place. Further, in order to synchronise the fiscal cycle, the company had decided to adopt a uniform accounting year with that of P&G. Accordingly, the company shall be following the accounting year July-June and for this purpose will extend its accounting year for 2006-07 from Jan 2006 to June 2007.
