Betting on the Indo-French food and wine trade to double in the next two years, the Indian arm of Sopexa, the French food and beverage promotion board, is planning to hold nationwide events to make the French wine to have `top of the mind recall'.
The first in the series of events will be `French Delight'. "We will host the event in Delhi and Mumbai where we will work with 10 restaurants in each city for the promotion of French wine and cheese," said Mr Rajiv Singhal, Sopexa Representative in India. The event would be organised in the next 2-3 months.
The board also plans to organise wine tasting events in retail stores. "We will focus not only on the metros and big cities but also on smaller towns like Ludhiana and Chandigarh, Guwahati and Raipur among others," added Mr Singhal.
Later in the year, the promotion board will organise a delegation of 40 small and medium scale French enterprises to participate in the Grand Forum India in Delhi.
"We will help these enterprises in finding business partners in the food and wine sector in India," he said.
Wine constitutes almost 80 per cent of import from France, according to the board. The imported wine market in India is about 1.5 lakh cases annually, 60 per cent of which is French.
