Mumbai , July 3 Mumbai city was lashed with heavy rains on Monday throwing life in the city out of gear. Several low-lying areas of the city, especially suburbs experienced flash floods as a result of unabated rains. Schools in the city and suburbs also recorded low attendance. Dr K. Sathidevi, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, Regional Meteorological Centre, said that heavy to very heavy rains or showers in the city, with a few showers of extremely heavy downpour in the city and suburbs is forecasted for the next 48 hours. The rains would also be coupled with strong gusty winds. The present rainfall is due to `trough conditions' on the sea, which is extending from the South coast of Gujarat to the Kerala coast. The cyclonic circulation over South Gujarat and adjoining areas is also adding to the rainfall, she said.
