Tata Steel's Q1 output up

Tata Steel has reported higher production of hot metal and crude steel during the first quarter of 2006-07. Hot metal production at 1.31 million tonnes and crude steel production at 1.21 million tonnes was higher by 8.2 per cent and 9.4 per cent respectively, compared to volumes in the first quarter last year. Saleable steel production at 1.11 million tonnes registered an increase of 17 per cent. Sales during the first quarter grew by 28 per cent to 1.12 million tonnes. The sales to auto sector is 0.19 million tonnes and has increased by 32 per cent. Sale of branded rebars, Tata Tiscon, grew by 42 per cent.

According to the company, it is undergoing a major restructuring of supply chain. Shares of Tata Steel gained by Rs 8.90 to Rs 542.20 on BSE.
