Deora lauds 8 States on ST cut in fuel

Our Bureau

New Delhi , July 3

The Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Mr Murli Deora, has complimented eight States, including Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, and their Chief Ministers for accepting his request to forego the sales tax revenue on the increased amount of petrol and diesel prices, effected last month.

The Minister also emphasised the need for the other State Governments to consider taking similar steps, according to an official release.

`Hike necessary'

"The increase in the prices of petrol and diesel was necessitated owing to the unprecedented rise in international oil prices," the release said.

Mr Deora in a communication to the Chief Ministers of eight States pointed out that the reduction in sales tax by these States was commendable and supplemented efforts of the Government to keep the impact of spiralling world oil prices at the minimum level on Indian consumers.
