FDCI to popularise Indian fashion

Debdatta Das

New Delhi , July 4

The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) has announced that the winners of the `Festival International des Arts de la Mode et de la Photographie 2006', an international fashion and photography festival, will be in New Delhi to participate in the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (Spring-Summer) from August 30 to September 3.

The two winners, Estelle Hanania (France) and Jaap Scheeren (the Netherlands) will be photographing the fashion shows at India's fashion trade event as part of their assignment to prepare an India Fashion photo report. This is one of many initiatives through which the FDCI aims to provide a platform for its member designers to showcase their creativity to a global audience.

Ms Rathi Vinay Jha, Director-General, FDCI, said, "The FDCI is committed to taking Indian fashion to the international marketplace. We have received very positive feedback during the recently concluded Fall-Winter showcase of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in Delhi, as well as at the festival in Hyeres in France. This is one of many initiatives that we are exploring to highlight Indian fashion abroad."

Ms Ritu Kumar, President, FDCI, said, "In continuation of its policy to create awareness and promote Indian fashion globally, the FDCI, along with the Chambre Syndical de la Couture (the organisers of The Paris Fashion Week) are forging ties."
