Rising exports

SHORT SUPPLY: Farmers engaged in cultivating ginger in Vadakkumchery in Kerala's Palakkad district. Weak supply from other origins has pushed up the exports of ginger from the country during April-May of the current fiscal. Total exports were 1,750 tonnes valued at Rs 7.25 crore as against 1,153 tonnes valued at Rs 6.94 crore during the year ago period. However, the unit value has dipped to Rs 41.43 a kg from Rs 60.25 a kg.
