Vidarbha package

The Prime Minister has announced a relief package to the farmers of Vidarbha. It appears, however, that a quick-fix solution has been offered. We must try to understand the non-financial causes that are responsible for the farmer suicides. It is not fair to blame the Centre for the suicides; the State government, financial institutions, money-lenders, wrong financial decisions by farmers, among are others, could also be the causes. The Government must ensure that the resources earmarked for this purpose reach the right people.
