Hospital kiosks for birth/death registration in Kerala

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram , July 5

The Kerala Government is setting up a series of kiosks attached to hospitals to facilitate immediate registration of births and deaths.

The "hospital kiosks", which are coming up at important hospitals in various municipal areas, would also help distribute the birth/ death certificates. The registrations would be made electronically at the kiosks.

Government officials said that the kiosks will be of immense help in a State where 90 per cent of the births and deaths are taking place in hospitals. They will ensure quick and on-the-spot registration and distribution of certificates.

The kiosks will be linked to the public service centres in the municipalities through computers. Jointly set up by the municipalities and the hospitals with the technical assistance of Information Kerala Mission, the kiosks will enhance the accuracy and quality of information registered.

The certificates will be issued within 24 hours of the birth or death reported.
