New Delhi , July 5 As part of its plan to take American education to the rest of the world, American Higher Education Inc (AHEd) has opened its first overseas learning centre in India. The learning centre, under its Indian operations American Higher Education India Pvt Ltd, will be based in Gurgaon and will offer video-conferencing facility, workstation laboratory and other facilities to students enrolling into the online courses of the three-partner universities Harvard , Columbia and Boston. AHEd is in the process of opening such learning centres in other parts of the world including Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Beijing and Kuwait. The company also plans to take the number of such centres in India to 12 and add five-six more universities in the list of those offering online courses. "We would also try to identify Indian partners who would bring branch campuses of American universities to India," said Dr Leonard J Hausman, Founder and Vice-Chairman, AHEd. The company will offer online engineering courses in 14 disciplines from School of Engineering and Applied Science of the Columbia University and skill enhancement programmes for teachers from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. It will also offer corporate and executive training programmes from Boston University Corporate Education Centre. The tuition fee in India would be the same as charged by the universities from their on-campus students and the degree would also be the same, according to the company. On the decision to enter the India market, Dr Hausman said, "The country is witnessing high economic growth. The students have the ability to get enrolled to the US universities and have the wherewithal to pay the tuition fees." AHEd works with top 100 universities for education and training solutions for the rest of the world. Based in Boston, it also develops proprietary training interventions in areas such as communication, presentation and negotiations to address employee development needs of organisations.
