Rupee gains marginally

The rupee gained marginally to reach 46.05/06, tracking the movement of dollar against other global currencies. It opened at 46.11 and moved within the range of 46.11-46.12, to finally close at 46.05/06. On Thursday, the rupee ended at 46.15/16. The dealers said the intra-day movement of the rupee was impacted by rumours of political instability at the Centre. Subsequently, the rumours abated and there was selling of dollars driving the home currency up, said a dealer at a private bank. The dollar weakened slightly against global currencies, especially the euro and the yen, ahead of the release of the US non-form payrolls data. This data is expected to determine the direction of interest rates, he said. In the forward premia market, the six-month closed at 1.10 per cent (1.08 per cent) and the 12-month at 1.19 per cent (1.19 per cent).
