Coimbatore , July 7 Referral laboratory chain Metropolis Health Services (India) Pvt Ltd has established its presence in Salem by setting up its facility at the Providence hospital there. It has joined hands with 14 hospitals across the country and is in talks with many more, its Managing Director, Dr G.K.S. Velu, told Business Line. Stating that the top hospitals in this region supported the growth and services of this corporate diagnostics chain, he observed that there was a dire need for surgical pathologists in Coimbatore. The company, he said, was expecting to close the year with a total business volume of Rs 150 crore. "When we reach the Rs 500-crore mark, we will go public," he said but refused to commit the tentative time-span. Meanwhile, it is aggressively expanding its domestic and international operations.

It has partnered with a company in Dubai for commencing operations in that country. "We would be formally inaugurating the facility in August," he said. Metropolis has invested about Rs 5 crore for establishing its base in West Asia and is close to striking a deal in the UK, where it has identified a lab-chain for possible acquisition. "We are keen on a joint venture arrangement in South Africa. But in Bahrain and Kuwait, we will be tying up with hospital managements," Dr Velu said.
