Port workers to launch stir on tribunal award

Our Bureau

Mumbai , July 10

The All-India Port and Dock Workers' Federation (AIPDWF) will be launching a nation-wide agitation at all major ports in the country to press its demand for keeping in abeyance the implementation of the National Tribunal Award.

As the first step, the federation will organise demonstrations in front of the administrative offices of the Mumbai and Jawaharlal Nehru ports on July 14.

Representatives of the five recognised federations of port and dock workers will also be meeting on July 14 to review the impact of implementation of the award, which recommends reduction in the manning scale of all categories of port and dock workers, apart from abolition of the `Gang system' that has been prevailing for decades in all the major ports.
