Spot rubber prices firm

Covering at lower levels kept spot rubber slightly firm on Tuesday. A recovery in international indices rescued the market from falling further though there were no fresh enquires from major consuming sectors.

RSS 4 improved by 50 paise to Rs 100.50 a kg at Kottayam but the grade was quoted steady at Rs 100 at Kochi. The supply continued to be tight amidst intensified overnight monsoon rains, sources said.

Futures gain

The NMCE rubber futures regained the strength on fresh buying and short covering. The July contract was traded at Rs 101.50 (Rs 99.43), August Rs 103 (Rs 100.66), September Rs 102.19 (Rs 98.77) and October contract at Rs 100 (Rs 96.90) per kg for RSS 4.The transactions stood at 1,678 tonnes till 2 p.m.

The August futures for RSS 3 bounced back to 301.5 yen (Rs 121.99) a kg from 294.8 yen at TOCOM.

Spot rubber prices per kg were: RSS-4: Rs 100.50 (Rs 100); RSS-5: Rs 98 (Rs 98); Ungraded: Rs 95.50 (Rs 95); ISNR 20: Rs 96.50 (Rs 96): and Latex 60 per cent: Rs 78.95 (Rs 77.87).
