Medical Institutions & Hospitals States - Other States Fortis gearing up for mega facility in Gurgaon Our Bureau
The mega health facility would have a hospital, a medical college, which would offer multi-speciality courses, a research centre, a nursing school and a central reference laboratory.
New Delhi , July 11 Fortis Healthcare Ltd, a Ranbaxy promoter group company, on Tuesday announced the launch of its 12th hospital, Fortis Flt Lt Rajan Dhall Hospital, here. It already sports a chain of 11 hospitals across North India. The 200-bed hospital spread over 1,50,000 sq ft, offers tertiary care in five disciplines: cardiac, renal, diabetes, metabolic diseases and joint replacement and thoracic surgery. Mr Harpal Singh, Chairman, Fortis Healthcare Ltd, said, "We have invested around Rs 115 crore in the project. The Fortis group, after redefining healthcare in Punjab and neighbouring States is doing the same now in Delhi NCR." The company also plans to build a hospital in Shalimar Bagh area of Delhi, which would have 500 beds, he said. Mr Singh said the Jaipur facility, which it had acquired from Escorts, would be opened within this year. ``Most of the construction work is over and it will have 300 beds.'' Fortis is also planning to build a mega health facility, Fortis International Institute of Medical and Biosciences (FIIMB) in Gurgaon, said Mr Harpal Singh, Chairman, Fortis Healthcare Ltd. Mr Singh had told Business Line earlier that the mega health facility built over an area of 75 acres would have a hospital, a medical college which would offer multi-speciality courses, a research centre, a nursing school and a central reference laboratory amongst other things. He said, "Though certain key features have been decided, the project is still in the initial planning stage." He further said that the project will need an investment of over Rs 1,000 crore for which talks were on with a number of organisations and corporate houses. Though he refused to divulge names of prospective investors, he said that the company was looking at investments from all four sources promoters fund, debt, internal accruals and equity investment. On Fortis' plans to partner with Naresh Trehan's Medicity, Mr Singh said that though a decision had been taken to partner in the Medicity project, the details had not yet been worked out. Mr Singh also outlined Fortis' plans to tap the diagnostic outsourcing domain. He said that outsourcing between India and the US had a great future, as it was extremely cost effective without compromising on the quality of diagnosis. Detailing the concept, he explained that in effect it would mean patients' x-rays, MRIs and other images being electronically forwarded to doctors in India, who in turn, would diagnose the diseases and send their reports. He felt that this was a good business model for hospitals like Fortis, and also benefited patients overseas who could get diagnosis at half the price.
