Chidambaram to meet PSB chiefs on July 21

K.R. Srivats

New Delhi , July 11

The Finance Minister, Mr P Chidambaram, is to meet the chief executives of public sector banks here on July 21. Indications are that the Finance Minister would, at that meeting, review the implementation of the budget promise of making available short-term farm credit at 7 per cent during Kharif 2006.

Issues relating to liquidity and hardening interest rate scenario are likely to be taken up for discussion. The meeting also assumes significance, as it would take place a few days before the Reserve Bank of India comes up with its quarterly review of the monetary policy for 2006-07 on July 25.
