Coimbatore , July 12

The 9th International Industrial Trade Fair, (INTEC 2006), organised by the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (Codissia), which concluded here today, has generated business worth Rs 760 crore and the next edition of INTEC would be held in 2008.

Speaking at the valedictory function of INTEC 2006, Mr.K.V.Ganapathi, Chairman, INTEC 2006, said that the fair attracted 402 participants from India and abroad. This was nearly 25 per cent more than the number of participants who took part in the previous edition of INTEC in 2005.

Though the fair dates almost clashed with trade fairs elsewhere in the country, there was an overwhelming response, confirming the business potential of the fair being held here.

He said according to the feedback received from the participants in the fair, the value of orders booked during the fair held from July 7 to 12 was around Rs 760 crore. (The INTEC 2005 brought in orders worth Rs 500 crore). About 60 per cent of the participants were new to the INTEC and were happy with the orders received. He said the orders received would keep the companies busy for another 18 months.

The next edition of INTEC would be conducted in January 2008. He estimated that more than one lakh persons had visited the fair.

Mr.K.Balachandran, President, Codissia, said in the future, the association would organise product-specific fairs.

Mr Schall of P.E.Schall- GmbH, Fairs & Exhibitions, Germany, said that the presentation and design of the products exhibited in the fair were of high standard. He said he was "convinced that in the medium term, we should be in a position to conduct technical exhibitions in specific areas" at the exhibition centre here. To attract more international visitors to Coimbatore, the city's infrastructure should be improved, he added.

The following stalls were chosen for awards under different categories: Best Stall (SSI): 1. Anjani Technoplast Ltd (Noida, UP); 2- Proximon Controls Pvt. Ltd, Thane; Non-SSI: 1. Jyoti CNC Automation Pvt Ltd, Rajkot;2- Shanthi Gears Ltd, Coimbatore; Innovative Product: (SSI) - Centroid Engineers India Pvt Ltd, Coimbatore; Non-SSI- Festo Controls Pvt Ltd, Bangalore.
