Alappuzha , July 12

To cash in on the ensuing boat race season in the southern part of Kerala, Lake Palace Resort in Alappuzha is rolling out attractive packages for tourists to experience the backwater fiesta.

Currently, there are about 5-6 boat races including the internationally acclaimed `Nehru Trophy Boat Race' to be held in this belt during the months of July, August and September.

Considering this, the resort has chalked out tailor-made packages for visitors, Mr Sajan Joseph, General Manager (Sales and Reservation), Lake Palace, told a group of visiting journalists.

Corporate meets

Along with the boat races, Lake Place is also offering integrated packages to host conference with family leisure option for the corporate segment. This three-month season is also one of the regional festivities culminating in the Onam celebrations. Lake Palace, located in 8.5 acres of developed area in the backwaters, is offering premium accommodation in 38 rooms. The rooms are classified into water villas, Kerala cottages and Lake View cottages. It has a conference facility to accommodate 150 persons in the main block as well as a mini conference facility accommodating a group of 40.

Around 30 companies from various parts of the country have conducted conferences during April to July this year in the resort. Affordability, connectivity and ambience are the factors offered to corporates to host conferences, Mr Joseph said.

Occupancy

According to Mr Joseph, there has been an increase of 15-20 per cent in occupancy in regular season and 25 per cent surge in the off-season. The premium segment of tourists is from the UK, followed by Germany and Italy. "We have been displaying our products in the World Travel Market in London for the last three years and there are also plans to do domestic marketing, which is a very strong segment," he said.

Alappuzha, renowned for its picturesque canals, paddy fields and palm trees is undoubtedly the best place to have a firsthand experience of Kerala's natural beauty and ethnic lifestyle, Mr Joseph added.
