Rs 71,000-cr package sought

Hyderabad , July 13

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Thursday sought a Rs 71,000-crore special package for the State to help the farming community.

The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, during the meeting, was told that 16 districts of the State have been adversely hit, with many farmers committing suicide. According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, Dr Reddy explained the massive irrigation projects undertaken by the State Government and the investments required to achieve this.

He urged the Prime Minister to announce a semiconductor policy so that the Fab City project could be taken up at the earliest in the State.
