Espania to focus on project-based interior solutions

New Delhi , July 13

After having tasted success in the retail furniture segment, Interiors Espania, a joint venture between the $9-billion Mondragon Cooperative, Spain, and Bhayana Group of India, is now looking at increasing its presence in project-based interior solutions.

"While the earlier focus of the brand was more retail-oriented, the new vision envisages a significant turnaround with emphasis on project-based, turnkey solutions, with a special thrust on single projects with billing of over Rs 50 lakh each. Our concept of retailing will also be quite different now, being more architect driven, and obviously with lesser margins", said Mr Inder Madhan, CEO, Interiors Espania.

"Instead of depending on sales through retail outlets, future individual sales will now be by invitation, with viewing of our range by prior appointment. The brand has always been exclusive and will now perhaps be more so," he added.

Mr Madhan said, "We can now offer a much wider range and choice of styles to customers, through sourcing arrangements with over 50 companies primarily from Europe but not necessarily from our joint venture partners. We have been importing full containers for home and office furniture clients and thus increasing our sales quite rapidly with this strategy."

Explaining the reason for the structural change, Mr Madhan said, "Our franchising business had not proved very successful. In a product line such as ours, it is difficult to ensure the high standards and customer satisfaction through franchisees. ''
