New Products & Services LG launches DivX audio video systems Our Bureau
Kolkata , July 13 LG Electronics India Pvt Ltd is hopeful of earning Rs 300 crore from sales of audio video systems in 2006. The company as a whole hopes to hit a turnover of Rs 9,000 crore, up from Rs 7,500 crore recorded in 2005, Mr Amitabh Tiwari, Business Group Head, Consumer Electronics, told a news conference here on Thursday to announce the national launch of a range of audio video systems including DivX certified ones. Mr Tiwari said that, besides DivX certified audio video systems, the new products on offer include a Karaoke system along with the premium range of home theatre systems.
US co tie up
Under the collaborative effort with DivX Inc of the US, the company will bundle six full-length DivX movies in one DVD, along with DivX certified LG DVD players. DivX is stated to be a digital media format that enables video to be compressed so that it uses only a fraction of the data required by a standard-length DVD for secure playback on PCs and other consumer electronics devices. The bundle also includes the DivX converter, a software programme that facilitates the DivX content on the PC. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rishi Tandon, Product Group Head, Digital Audio Video Division, said the company currently had a 23.2 per cent share of the domestic market for DVDs. Over time, the idea was to augment this to 30 per cent, he said, and added that steps were being taken to "strengthen and enrich" the company's audio video product offerings.
