Mumbai , July 13

The Maharashtra Government has decided to provide the Railways with 800 additional police personnel and 1,000 Home Guards to enhance the security in the trains and the railway stations in the city.

The deployment of the personnel would be done in the next two days, Mr D K Sankaran, Chief Secretary, Maharashtra, told presspersons at the Secretariat on Thursday.

Earlier, Mr Sankaran had a meeting with top police and railway officials to review the railway security situation. Mr Sankaran said that number of dog squads at the railway stations would be increased.

Metal detectors and explosive detection equipment would also be provided to Railway Police to help prevent such attacks. Measures such as controlled access at entrances and exits of railway stations, installation of X-ray machines and CCTVs are also being contemplated.

The Railways will set up a committee to take up all technical issues pertaining to security, he said.
