Weak trend at Kochi tea auction

A weak trend prevailed at the Kochi tea auction, which had 9,52,000 kg of dust tea on offer. Prices of CTC dust varieties fell by about a rupee when the auction opened. While bolder CTC declined by Rs 1-2,good liquoring varieties witnessed fresh demand as the sale progressed. Orthodox dust grades remained steady. CTC varieties found good demand from blenders, domestic buyers and exporters.

Best CTC grades fetched between Rs 56 and Rs 65, medium CTC ranged between Rs 50 and Rs 55, while below medium were quoted at Rs 44 to Rs 49. High-grown BOPD varieties fetched Rs 86 to Rs 114, while medium BOPD was quoted at Rs 42.

Leaf Tea Sale

The prices of most varieties fell at the leaf tea auction, which had 3,77,000 kg on offer. Medium orthodox brokens and secondaries remained steady. Prices of some whole leaf grades slipped marginally. Primary orthodox grades tended to ease, while fannings remained steady. Buyers chased quality in the high-grown orthodox grades.

CTC grades, which were sold at higher levels last week, fell by Rs 4-6. Other CTC leaf grades fell by Rs 1-2.Exporters to Iraq, Tunisia and Libya lent useful support to medium orthodox grades. Exporters to CIS countries operated in the best quality medium grades and high grown brokens.

Best Nilgiri leaf varieties fetched between Rs 65 and Rs 75, medium orthodox ranged between Rs 47 and Rs 57 while plain orthodox was quoted at Rs 43-45.

Best CTC leaf grades fetched Rs 50-55 while medium CTC was at Rs 48-52.

Top Prices

Top prices in the dust segment were fetched by Kodanad BOPD at Rs 114, followed by Pasuparai SFD at Rs 99, Parkside BOPD at Rs 86 and Pasuparai FD at Rs 83. At the leaf tea auction, Chamraj OP fetched the top price at Rs 104, followed by Havukal BOPF at Rs 95, Kodanad BOPF at Rs 94 and Glendale FOP at Rs 88.
