SACHIN TENDULKAR at the launch of Airtel Games on demand service in the Capital on Thursday. - Ramesh Sharma
New Delhi , July 13 Airtel Broadband & Telephone Services today introduced its games on demand service, which will enable broadband subscribers to enjoy unlimited access to online games through the Airtel Broadband Consumer Portal by paying Rs 199 a month. While the Indian gaming market is still at a nascent stage, it is expected to touch $210 million by 2010. Globally, gaming is a $54-billion market and is bigger than Hollywood box office sales. "Today, customers are looking for rich content to enhance the overall broadband experience. We aim to offer the hottest on-demand content through as many channels as possible," said Mr Akshay Kumar, Chief Marketing Officer. Airtel has tied up with India Games for the service. Mr Vishal Gondal, Founder and Director of India Games, said: "We believe that we can significantly expand the segment of legitimate sales and bring the experience of high-quality online gaming to millions of gamers in India." The service was launched by Sachin Tendulkar in Delhi today. Broadband market is growing at a sluggish pace with just 1.5 million users in the country. Applications such as online gaming and music are expected to drive usage in urban and semi-urban cities.
