New Delhi , July 14

India Post on Friday launched its first water proof and tear resistant envelope, developed in partnership with DuPont, right in time for the festival of Raksha Bandhan.

``These envelopes would be able to withstand wear and tear of handling and also the adverse weather conditions during this season much better than ordinary envelopes,'' said Mr H P Nanda, DuPont, India Business Manager, Nonwovens. He further added that the envelopes had been priced at Rs 5 each. DuPont has the capacity to produce two-three lakh envelopes on a daily basis.

Depending on the response, modalities would be worked out to make these envelopes available for other occasions as well, India Post Chief General Manager, Business Development Wing, Mr Raghav Lal said.

Mr Nanda added that DuPont was also in talks with other retail chains to sell the envelope. He said that the names of the retail chains would be revealed soon after Raksha Bandhan.
