New Delhi , July 14

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Thursday assured industry that he would examine the issues relating to levy of 12.5 per cent value added tax (VAT) on tea.

Industry has pointed out that certain neighbouring States around Andhra Pradesh have adopted a VAT rate of 4 per cent on tea.

"This issue has been brought to my notice recently. I will examine it," Dr Reddy said at an interactive session organised by AP Invest.

Industry sources said that Andhra Pradesh and Orissa are the two States that have pegged their VAT rate on tea at 12.5 per cent even as most of the States in the country have adopted 4 per cent VAT rate.
