Numeric, Socomec tie up to market UPS units

Chennai , July 14

Numeric Power Systems Ltd and Socomec UPS, the companies that manufacture Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS), have jointly floated a company to market three-phase UPS units in India.

The joint venture, Socomec-Numeric UPS Pvt Ltd, based in Chennai, will market the three-phase UPS manufactured by Socomec at its plants in France and Italy.

Announcing the joint venture at a press conference here on Friday,Mr R. Chellappan, Managing Director, Numeric Power Systems, said the two companies hadcome together to exploit their individual strengths - Socomec's in manufacturing large, high end, UPS systems and Numeric's market leadership in India.

Potential market

With industry on a buoyant phase in India, the potential market segments open to Socomec's products cover information and communication technology and related areas, finance, banking and insurance, large manufacturers, e-governance initiatives and the small-office-home-office and SME segments. Socomec makes 3-phase UPS from 10 KVA to 4,800 KVA and greater capacity. These would be imported from its factories in Europe. In the initial weeks of floating the joint venture - the agreement was signed in France mid-June - the company sold over 15 MW equivalent of UPS units and more were on the way, he said.

Mr Jean-Marc Gautier, Managing Director, Socomec UPS Asia Pte Ltd, said the joint venture would have presence in all the major cities in India by year-end and continue expanding.
