Policy on biofuel

This is with reference to "Enervated on biofuel" (Business Line, July 15):

It has been rightly pointed out that we do not have a policy on biofuel. It is unfortunate that ITCOT (Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organisation) as an enterprise with many top companies as partners, periodically conducts jatropha seminars on bio-diesel and is interested in selling its project report but maintains a silence.

The editorial warns that if India continues to consume oil at the current rate, by 2030, 94 per cent of the country's petroleum requirement will have to be met through imports. It is hoped that the Government will soon come up with a viable policy on biofuels.
