Software Info-Tech - Research & Development States - Karnataka Accenture's fourth R&D centre comes up in Bangalore Our Bureau
Chennai , July 16 IT consulting and services major Accenture has set up its fourth R&D technology lab in Bangalore, which will be conducting research in the areas of systems integration and software engineering. The company plans to hire about 50 researchers by 2007 selected from the country's leading universities and engineering institutes to staff this facility. This will be expanded to 100 in a phased manner over the next three to four years. The focus of the lab will be mainly on delivery innovation, according to Mr Scott Rose, Global Managing Director, Accenture Technology Labs. This focus is expected to reduce cost and improve the quality of technology solutions delivered to its global clientele, he added.
Global mandate
Accenture currently operates three labs, two in the US (at Palo Alto, California and Chicago, Illinois) and one at France (in Sophia Antipolis). Outlining the global mandate for Accenture R&D labs, Mr Rose said that it addresses four key areas of client innovation through new applications, new market development say, in mobility or RFID, delivery innovation and image/thought leadership. Asked specifically about the nature of R&D work to be handled by the India labs, Dr Lin Chase, Director of Accenture Technology Labs-India, said that since Accenture handles large and complex projects from India, the focus would initially be on systems integration projects. Based on interaction with delivery teams, research into systems integration will focus on five key aspects such as requirement analysis, tools and methods, metrics and measurement, testing and knowledge reuse, she added. Accenture's Global Delivery Network employed 47,000 people as of May 31. Of these, 19,000 people operate out of five delivery centres in India and service over 200 clients.
